Shopping

Faro is not a shopping destination, but the Mercado Municipal on Largo Doutor Francisco Sá Carneiro is worth a morning visit for fish, figs, almonds, medronho and Algarve oranges. The pedestrianised Rua de Santo António is the city's main shopping street, lined with mid-range Portuguese chains and a few independents.

For a mall, Forum Algarve sits beside the airport access road and gathers the usual high-street brands. For real local craft — cork goods, hand-painted tiles, woven baskets — the small shops on Rua do Município and Rua Vasco da Gama in the old town are a better bet than anything in the malls.
