Serra da Boa Viagem is the green ridge that rises immediately north of Figueira da Foz, turning a beach town into a place with real landscape behind it. Roads and paths climb through forest to viewpoints over the Mondego mouth, the long Atlantic beach, and the low coast beyond.
It is most rewarding on a clear day, when the contrast between sea, dunes, river, and wooded hills is sharp. Travellers with a car can make it an easy scenic loop; walkers can use it as a breezy break from the beachfront.
