Eating Out

Óbidos sits in a region that produces good seafood (the Atlantic coast is half an hour away) and fine fruit — especially pears, of which the local Pêra Rocha has its own protected designation. The town's own speciality is the ginjinha sour cherry liqueur, traditionally drunk from an edible chocolate cup.

Restaurants inside the walls are mostly geared to tourists, so book or pick the busier ones, and look outside the walls in Sobral da Lagoa and Gaeiras for more local cooking. Order grilled fish, caldo verde soup, and the local pera rocha for dessert.
