Getting There

A car is effectively essential for exploring the Odemira municipality — the coast and interior villages are spread over hundreds of square kilometres with infrequent public transport. Fly into Faro (the nearest large airport, about 90 minutes south) or Lisbon (3 hours north) and hire a car.

Odemira town has a train station on the Alentejo line from Lisbon (Barreiro), but services are slow and infrequent. There are bus connections from Lagos and Portimão in the Algarve, and from Beja and Santiago do Cacém to the north.
