June and September are the best months for Odemira. The weather is warm, the Atlantic has come up to a reasonable swimming temperature, and the beaches are busy but not packed. October through May is quiet and often green — the hills are carpeted with wild flowers after the autumn rains.
July and August bring the strongest tourist traffic and the Nortada — the strong northerly wind that makes afternoon beach time uncomfortable in exposed spots. The Sudoeste Alive music festival in Zambujeira do Mar runs in late July or early August and fills every bed in the municipality for a few days.
The interior is at its best in spring (March–May), when the cork oak countryside is lush, the wildflowers are out, and the rivers are running high.
