Setúbal is a fish town. Choco frito — cuttlefish cut into strips and deep-fried, served with rice and salad — is the city dish, and it is on the menu at most restaurants. The Sado estuary also produces excellent grilled sardines, sea bass, and tiny clams (amêijoas) served with garlic and coriander. The Tróia ferry port and the streets behind the Mercado do Livramento are where to look for the working tascas; prices are markedly lower than in Lisbon for fish of equal or better quality. Pair with a chilled white from the local Setúbal peninsula (Casa Ermelinda Freitas, José Maria da Fonseca) and finish with the celebrated dessert wine Moscatel de Setúbal.
