Vila do Conde is pleasant year-round. The best months for beach-going are June through September, when sea temperatures are warm enough for comfortable swimming and the Atlantic swell is generally manageable. July and August are peak season: restaurants fill up, the esplanade is busy, and the town has a festive atmosphere.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are better for sightseeing without crowds. The monastery, the aqueduct, and the old centre are most enjoyable when the weather is mild and the streets are quiet. Winter is mild by northern European standards — rarely below 8°C — and the town functions normally year-round, though some beach-facing establishments close from October.
The Festa de São João on 23–24 June brings music and celebrations to the streets, and coincides with similar festivities in Porto and across northern Portugal.
