The Monastery Church on Citadel Square is the former church of a Dominican monastery, built in Gothic style in the 15th century. The Dominicans left after the Reformation, and the building has served various congregations since, currently as a Romanian Orthodox church. The interior retains Gothic vaulting and some traces of medieval decoration under later alterations.
It sits at the heart of the citadel square — the main open space within the walls — giving it a central presence in the daily life of the upper town. The square itself, surrounded by painted Saxon houses of varying dates, is the best place to sit and take in the atmosphere of the citadel at its most intact.
