Sighisoara's citadel is compact enough to explore on foot in a day, but the quality of what is preserved here rewards a slower pace. The medieval towers, covered staircase, hilltop church, and tightly packed streets of coloured houses have survived almost intact, making this one of the very few inhabited medieval citadels in Europe.
