The Church of the Holy Archangels in Șurdești, built in 1721, was until recently the tallest wooden structure in the world. Its spire reaches 72 metres — an extraordinary height for a building made entirely of wood. The church features unusual double eaves and two sets of arched wooden windows, giving it a silhouette unlike any other in Maramureș. A UNESCO World Heritage site.
