Maramureș is defined by its wooden churches — tall-spired, centuries-old structures built entirely of timber, several of them UNESCO World Heritage sites. Beyond the churches, the region has a handful of worthwhile museums in Sighetu Marmației and villages where the traditional way of life is the attraction itself.
