Pskov has a modest but decent restaurant scene concentrated around the centre and the pedestrian streets near the kremlin. Expect Russian staples — soups, meat dishes, dumplings, and pancakes — done straightforwardly and without pretension. Prices are low by any Western standard.
The local speciality is snetek, a tiny freshwater fish from Lake Pskov that was once the basis of a major export trade in the medieval period. Dried snetek are still sold in markets and sometimes appear on menus — they are eaten whole, like whitebait, and have a distinctive smoky flavour. Worth trying once if you see them.
