Pskov is about 300 kilometres southwest of St Petersburg. The fastest connection is by train — the Lastochka express from St Petersburg's Vitebsky Station takes around three and a half hours. Slower regional trains also make the journey, taking four to five hours. There are overnight trains from Moscow (about 13 hours).
By bus, there are regular services from St Petersburg (around 5 hours) and from Riga in Latvia (3–4 hours), making Pskov a practical stop on a route between Russia and the Baltic states. The border crossing into Estonia or Latvia is straightforward if your visa situation is in order, though check current requirements carefully before travelling. There is a small airport at Pskov, but scheduled services are limited to domestic Russian destinations and infrequent.
