Trinity Cathedral stands at the highest point inside the Krom, its white walls and blue-and-gold domes rising over the walls and visible from across the city. The interior is dominated by a remarkable gilded iconostasis nearly 40 metres high and five tiers deep, commissioned in the late 17th century and still in its original position. The quality of the icons — many of them from the 14th and 15th centuries — is exceptional even by Russian standards.
The cathedral also serves as the burial church for Pskov's princes and bishops. The crypt below contains the sarcophagi of several Pskovian rulers, and the church is still an active Orthodox cathedral with regular services. Come early in the morning before tour groups arrive.
