Tygyn Darkhan

Tygyn Darkhan is the best known of the upmarket Yakut restaurants in the city, named after a 17th-century Yakut leader. The menu reads like a tour of Sakha cuisine — stroganina from Lena nelma, oyogos, sliced horse heart, salted reindeer, fermented mare's milk. The room is decorated with Yakut motifs and the staff explain dishes patiently.

Portions are generous and the prices are high by local standards but not by Western ones. It is the place to order one of each strange dish if you only have a single dinner in town.
