Yakutsk is a small city by Russian standards but punches well above its weight in unusual museums and bracing experiences. The mammoth collection, the permafrost research station, and the open-air ethnographic park each show a different face of life in the Sakha Republic. In winter, walking across the frozen Lena River is itself one of the great things to do.
