Banska Stiavnica's Evangelical Church was built in the 1790s, after the reforms of Emperor Joseph II allowed Protestant churches under strict design limits. It has no tower and sits in a row of street-front buildings, so the facade and dome do most of the work of announcing it as a church.
That restraint is part of the interest. It is a quiet contrast to the town's Catholic churches, castles, and mining monuments, and helps explain the mixed religious life of this old mining centre.
