St. Catherine's Church is a late Gothic church in the heart of Banská Štiavnica's historic district, built in the fifteenth century during the height of the town's silver-mining prosperity. The exterior is modest — the narrow streets around it limit the view — but the interior contains remarkable late medieval frescoes and carved stone details that survived the religious turbulence of the Reformation relatively intact.
The church is a short walk from the main square and is part of the historic core that UNESCO designated as a World Heritage Site. It can be visited in combination with the Old Castle above it; together they represent the two major surviving Gothic monuments of the town's medieval period. Opening times are limited and can vary by season, so checking locally before visiting is advisable.
