Klinger is one of the tajchy, the old mining reservoirs that make the hills around Banská Štiavnica feel unlike almost anywhere else in Slovakia. It sits close enough to town to reach on foot, but the short climb is enough to trade the lanes and church towers for trees, water, and the practical engineering of the old mining landscape.
In warm weather it works as a modest swimming spot rather than a grand lake resort. Bring shoes for the paths, a towel if the day is hot, and some curiosity about how much of Banská Štiavnica's pretty scenery was once built to keep mines alive.
