Veľké Richňavské jazero is one of the old mining reservoirs, or tajchy, around Banská Štiavnica. Built for water management in the mining district, it now functions as a scenic lake for swimming, walking, and slow summer afternoons.
It is most useful for travellers who want to understand the landscape beyond the old town. The reservoir shows how engineering, mining, and recreation overlap here, and it makes a good warm-weather break after museums and steep streets.
