Most SNP (Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising) is Bratislava's most distinctive modern landmark — a single-pylon cable-stayed bridge over the Danube with a flying-saucer observation deck and restaurant perched 85 metres above the water. It was completed in 1972 as part of the communist-era transformation of the city. The Atlas Obscura entry calls it the "UFO of Bratislava," and the nickname has stuck.
The observation deck offers the best panoramic view of Bratislava available without hiking — the old town, the castle, the plains of the Danube, and on clear days the foothills of the Small Carpathians. The restaurant at the top is overpriced but the view justifies a coffee. A lift runs from the base of the pylon on the Petržalka side.
The bridge is an easy walk from St Martin's Cathedral and makes a logical extension of an old town walk. Cross to the Petržalka side for a different perspective on the city, and look back for the photograph of the castle and old town framed by the bridge cables.
