Bars and Cafes

Bratislava's bar scene is concentrated in the old town and is significantly cheaper than Vienna or Prague. Michalská ulica and the streets around it form the core nightlife strip. The city also has a strong coffee culture — third-wave cafes have arrived in the last decade, particularly in Staré Mesto and the emerging neighbourhood around the old market.

Slovak wine, especially the Frankovka Modrá and Welschriesling from the Small Carpathians wine region just north of the city, is worth trying. Several wine bars in the old town specialise in Slovak and Moravian wines by the glass. Slovak beer is dominated by Zlatý Bažant and Šariš — both fine for a cold pint on a warm evening.

Bratislava's craft beer scene has developed quickly. The bar at Výčap on Obchodná Street pours Slovak craft beers from small producers. The Klarisky Bar, in a Gothic convent courtyard, is one of the most atmospheric drinking spots in the city.
