Bratislava's main shopping is concentrated on Obchodná Street, the pedestrianised commercial street leading north from the old town. It has a mix of Slovak chains, international brands, and smaller independent shops. The nearby Tesco and several modern shopping malls (Aupark, Eurovea) cover practical needs.
For more interesting shopping, look in the old town for Slovak folk crafts (Úľuv on Obchodná has a good selection of traditional Slovak products), and for Bratislava's growing number of independent design shops. The Bratislava Christmas Market in December is the best place for locally made gifts.
Modra blue pottery — the traditional blue-and-white earthenware of the Small Carpathians region — makes a good and practical souvenir. It is widely available in souvenir shops in the old town and more authentically in the town of Modra itself.
