Old Market Hall (Stará tržnica)

The Old Market Hall (Stará tržnica) on Nám. SNP is Bratislava's best public market and food hall. The 1910 neo-Renaissance building was restored and reopened in 2014 as a mixed-use space: a Saturday farmer's market, regular street food nights, concerts, and community events. The market has become one of the focal points for Bratislava's food scene and a genuine gathering place for the city.

On Saturday mornings the ground floor fills with producers selling vegetables, bread, charcuterie, cheese, and Slovak wine directly to customers. The upper gallery has food stalls and a bar. Street food nights happen once a month and draw a crowd. The building itself is worth seeing even when the market is not operating — a well-restored example of turn-of-the-century civic architecture.

The market is a 10-minute walk north of the Main Square on Nám. SNP.

A story
The Old Market Hall was built in 1910 as Bratislava's main food market and operated until the 1980s when it was converted to offices. After a lengthy restoration, it reopened in 2014 as a food market, event space, and street food hall — giving back to the city a public gathering place it had lacked for decades.
