Vintgar Gorge

Spectacular 1.6 km boardwalk above the Radovna River

A 1.6 km canyon cut by the Radovna River through limestone walls 100 metres high, traversed since 1893 by a network of wooden boardwalks bolted to the gorge sides. The water below runs an improbable turquoise, broken by short waterfalls and the 16-metre Šum Falls at the far end.

The gorge is one of the Julian Alps' most popular attractions, and at peak times the boardwalks can be uncomfortably busy. Aim for the first hour after opening (8:00 in season) or the last hour before closing. Tickets must be booked in advance for a timed slot in summer. From the upper exit you can loop back to Bled via the village of Zasip, or carry on towards Bohinj.
