Bled is small enough that the restaurant scene is compact. Slovenian cooking here leans hearty — expect stews, grilled meats, and štruklji (rolled dumplings). The local speciality is the kremna rezina (cream cake), a vanilla custard and cream slice sold at virtually every cafe around the lake.
For a serious meal, head to the hotel restaurants at the south end of the lake — the dining rooms at Grand Hotel Toplice and Vila Bled remain the most refined places to eat in town. Several smaller restaurants in the village and along the lake-shore offer good simpler cooking — trout from the Radovna, mountain cheese, and Triglav-region wines.
