Cable Inglés

The Cable Inglés is a huge iron loading gantry beside the waterfront, built when Almería's minerals were shipped out through the port. It could have been left as a rusting industrial relic; instead it has become one of the city's most distinctive landmarks.

The restored walkway gives fine views back toward the Alcazaba and across the bay. It is especially good around sunset, when the structure turns from engineering to silhouette.

A story
The Cable Inglés was built to move iron ore from trains directly into ships, a piece of industrial choreography in steel. Its name comes from the British engineering and mining interests that shaped the project.
