The neighbouring town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda — 10 km north across the river — is the obvious half-day: the manzanilla bodegas, the long beach at Bajo de Guía, and a boat trip across the estuary into the Doñana National Park. Jerez de la Frontera is 30 minutes further inland for sherry bodegas and the Royal Andalucían School of Equestrian Art. Cádiz, an hour south, is the historic Atlantic port, with its old quarter on a narrow peninsula one of the finest coastal cities in Spain.
