Chipiona is a simple, unpretentious beach resort on the Atlantic coast of Andalucia, near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River. It has two spectacular beaches and great seafood restaurants — this is a place where you can eat fried fish and local prawns for very little money. Outside August, you can largely escape the crowds and experience a typical Spanish seaside town.
Older locals come to take the spa waters at the church fountain. The town's landmark is the tallest lighthouse in Spain, built in 1867. The Playa de Regla to the south tends to be quieter, and the sunsets over the Atlantic from the boardwalk are hard to beat.
