Beaches

Nerja's coastline is a string of small coves and beaches at the foot of the cliffs, separated by rocky headlands and accessed by steps from the town above. The water is clear and deep close to shore — the rock falls away quickly — making it good for snorkelling.

The town beaches (Calahonda, El Salón, La Torrecilla) are close to the centre and busy in season; Playa Burriana to the east is the largest and liveliest, with chiringuitos, sun loungers and parking; Playa de Maro a few kilometres east is the prettiest but harder to reach. Bring water shoes — the pebbly sand is hard on bare feet on most of the smaller beaches.
