Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza

One of the oldest and most atmospheric bullrings in Spain, the Maestranza has been hosting fights since 1761. Even if bullfighting makes you uncomfortable, the building itself is worth a visit — its elegant white-and-ochre baroque facade sits beautifully on the riverfront, and the interior is surprisingly intimate for a ring that seats 12,000. The guided tour takes you through the museum of bullfighting memorabilia, the chapel where matadors pray before entering the ring, and into the arena itself. The acoustics and proportions are remarkable. A fascinating window into a controversial but deeply rooted tradition.
