Torre de la Pena

Coastal watchtower above Tarifa's Atlantic beaches and wind-bent shoreline

Torre de la Pena is one of the old coastal watchtowers that make Tarifa's shoreline feel more than just a beach strip. Its position above the Atlantic side gives context to centuries of watching the strait, the coast, and the approaches between Europe and Africa.

It is a short stop rather than a destination in itself, but a good one if you are moving between Tarifa and the wilder beaches to the north. The tower is best appreciated for its setting: wind, sand, cliffs, and the sense that this coast has always been a frontier.
