The largest square in central Oviedo, flanked by the Teatro Campoamor — where the Princess of Asturias Awards are presented each October — and the Palacio de la Junta General. The square is a natural meeting point and a good starting place for exploring the old town, which begins just uphill to the east.
The Campoamor is an ornate 19th-century opera house that hosts a regular programme of theatre, opera, and concerts. Even if you do not catch a performance, the facade is handsome and the square has a pleasant cafe terrace or two for a coffee break.
