Things to Do

Oviedo's main draw is its pre-Romanesque architecture — a cluster of 9th-century buildings that predate anything Romanesque on the Iberian peninsula and hold UNESCO World Heritage status. The historic centre is compact and walkable, with the cathedral, university, and a scattering of public sculptures all within a few blocks. The pre-Romanesque churches on Monte Naranco are a 30-minute walk uphill from the old town, and worth every step.
