Playa del Inglés is a year-round resort and the weather supports this — Gran Canaria has one of the most stable climates in Europe, with average temperatures rarely dropping below 18°C in winter or rising much above 28°C in summer. The island calls itself the "continent of miniature climates," and the southern resort strip sits in the sunniest, driest part.
The busiest periods are July and August (European school holidays) and the winter months of December through February (when northern Europeans flee the cold). January and February can be surprisingly lively, with the Maspalomas Carnival in February being one of the more extravagant events on the island. The spring and autumn shoulder months are the quietest and most comfortable, with good beach weather and fewer crowds.
Rain is rare in the south of Gran Canaria in any season. If you are visiting in summer, the Saharan wind (the calima) occasionally rolls in from Africa, turning the sky hazy and bringing fine desert dust. These episodes usually last a few days before the sea breeze reasserts itself.
