The Sunday market is the busiest day of the week in Teguise by a wide margin. From early morning until about two in the afternoon, the plazas and main streets of the old town fill with hundreds of stalls selling everything from local cheeses, gofio flour, mojo sauces and cured tuna to leather goods, embroidered cloth, sun hats, and the inevitable bric-a-brac. There is live folk music in the main square and street food spilling out of every corner.
Come early — by ten the village is mobbed with day-trippers from the southern resorts, and parking gets difficult. The best stuff (local food, traditional crafts) is on the streets nearest the church; the further you walk from the centre the more it tilts toward souvenirs and counterfeit football shirts. If you want to see Teguise as it normally is, come back on Monday.
