Museum of Science and the Cosmos

The Museum of Science and the Cosmos is one of the more surprising cultural institutions in La Laguna — a hands-on science museum that addresses cosmology, the universe, and the human place within it. Tenerife has a strong scientific culture connected to astronomy: the Teide Observatory on the volcano summit is one of the leading astronomical facilities in the world, and the island's clear skies and altitude make it an important base for international research programmes.

The museum occupies a purpose-built building and has interactive exhibits on the solar system, particle physics, and the nature of time and space. The presentation is accessible without being condescending; the exhibits work well for children but hold the attention of adults. There is a planetarium with regular shows. The museum is situated a few kilometres south of the historic centre and is best reached by car or bus; it makes a good half-day excursion, particularly for families.
