Astorga is on the main road and rail line between León and Galicia. From León (about 50 km east) there are frequent trains and buses; the journey takes around 40 minutes. RENFE long-distance trains between Madrid and A Coruña stop here several times a day. The bus station and train station are both a short walk from the historic centre.
For walkers on the Camino Francés, Astorga is the traditional final stop before the climb into the Montes de León. The town is also the start of the Camino Sanabrés, which branches off here toward Galicia via Ourense.
