Church of San Marcos

Unusual round Romanesque church just north of Salamanca's old center.

The Church of San Marcos is one of Salamanca's most distinctive Romanesque buildings, immediately recognizable for its circular plan. It is small beside the cathedrals and university monuments, but its shape and age make it more than just another neighborhood church.

Inside, the space is compact and sober, with medieval fabric and later details layered into the round structure. It is an easy detour from the historic center and works well for travelers interested in Salamanca beyond the Plaza Mayor circuit.
