Salamanca maintains one of Spain's best tapas traditions: in most bars, a drink comes with a free tapa. The area around Plaza Mayor and the streets running south from it is the densest zone for eating and drinking. Regional specialities include hornazo, the hearty local pastry, and wines from the Sierra de Salamanca and Arribes del Duero denominations.
