Getting Around

The entire historic centre of Salamanca is compact and walkable. Plaza Mayor, the University, the two cathedrals, Casa de las Conchas, and the Convento de San Esteban are all within 15–20 minutes' walk of each other — and in most cases much less. The old town is largely pedestrianised and very pleasant to explore on foot.

City buses serve the outer residential areas but are not needed for the main sights. Bicycles can be hired from several outlets near the old town and are useful for reaching the Tormes riverside path and the newer parts of the city. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive.
