Quimet & Quimet is a Barcelona institution — a tiny, standing-room-only bar in Poble Sec that has been run by the same family for five generations. The speciality is montaditos: small pieces of bread topped with combinations of tinned fish (anchovies, tuna, mussels, cockles), preserved vegetables, and sauces. The combinations are creative and delicious.
The walls are lined floor-to-ceiling with tinned goods and bottles. There is barely room to turn around. Everything about this bar is the opposite of the Barcelona that appears in travel brochures, and it is wonderful. Arrive when it opens — it fills within 30 minutes and the best montaditos go fast.
