Figueres is on the main Barcelona–Paris rail line and has two stations: the conventional Figueres station in the town centre, and the newer Figueres-Vilafant station on the high-speed AVE line, about 2 kilometres out. Direct AVE trains from Barcelona Sants take around 55 minutes to Figueres-Vilafant; regional trains from Barcelona or Girona take longer but stop at the central station.
From Girona, the train takes about 40 minutes. By car, Figueres is on the AP-7 motorway near the French border, about 140 kilometres north of Barcelona and 40 kilometres from Perpignan. The town is compact enough to walk once you arrive.
