The Technical Museum of the Empordà (Museu Tècnica de l'Empordà) is an overlooked gem in Figueres, housing an extraordinary collection of antique typewriters, calculating machines, printing equipment, and scientific instruments. The typewriter collection alone runs to hundreds of examples spanning the history of mechanical writing, from early experimental models to mid-century electric machines.
The museum occupies a former industrial building near the town centre and is often empty — a stark contrast to the queues at the Dalí museum a few streets away. If you have any interest in the history of technology, it is worth an hour of your time, and the admission charge is minimal.
