Museu de l'Empordà

The Museu de l'Empordà is Figueres's regional museum, housed in a purpose-built building on the Rambla. Its collection covers archaeology, natural history, and fine art from the Alt Empordà region, from prehistoric finds to medieval ecclesiastical objects to 19th- and 20th-century Catalan painting. It is a good place to understand the broader cultural context of the area beyond the Dalí phenomenon.

The fine art section includes work by Catalan painters associated with the Empordà, alongside a handful of pieces by Dalí that provide a comparison point with the Theatre-Museum. It is considerably less crowded than the Dalí museum and charges a much lower admission.
