Getting Around

Lleida's old quarter and the hilltop cathedral are compact and best explored on foot. The climb from the lower city to La Seu Vella takes about fifteen minutes at a steady pace up the Carrer dels Cavallers ramp; the reward is an elevated view over the rooftops and, on clear days, the Pyrenees.

The modern city spreads out from the old centre and is served by local buses, though most visitor-relevant sights are within easy walking distance of each other. Taxis are available outside the train station and on the main squares.

If you are using Lleida as a base for the surrounding area — the orchard country, the Pyrenean foothills, or the medieval villages of the Pallars — a car is effectively essential. Car hire is available at the train station and in the city centre.

Cycling is increasingly popular in and around Lleida, particularly along the Segre river, where a greenway path runs for several kilometres in each direction.
