Bars and Cafes

Lleida has a lively bar scene sustained by its university and by the Catalan habit of spending serious time in cafes. The Rambla d'Aragó is the main promenade, lined with terraces that fill up on warm evenings. The streets around the old quarter — particularly Carrer Major and the lanes behind La Paeria — have a concentration of smaller bars and tapas places that tend to be more local in character.

Vermouth (vermut) before Sunday lunch is a Lleida institution, as it is across Catalonia. Many bars open a tapas counter from around noon on Sundays that is worth timing a visit around.
