Museu Romàntic Can Llopis

19th-century bourgeois house frozen in time

The Can Llopis was the family home of a wealthy Sitges wine merchant who made his fortune in 19th-century Cuba and returned to build an Italianate town house in the centre of his native town. When the family donated the building to the council in 1949 they left everything in place: the painted ceilings, the period furniture, the silverware, the dolls and music boxes belonging to the children.

The result is an unusually intact slice of bourgeois Catalan domestic life in the era when Sitges was a prosperous fishing and wine-trading port, before the artists arrived. The top floor holds a charming collection of more than 400 19th-century dolls. Half an hour is enough; included in the joint museum ticket with Cau Ferrat and Maricel.
