The Museu de Maricel ("Sea and Sky") occupies a rambling neo-medieval palace built between 1910 and 1918 by the American collector Charles Deering, hanging directly over the Mediterranean next to the Cau Ferrat. Deering eventually fell out with the architect and shipped most of his collection back to Chicago; what remained, plus subsequent donations, now makes a strong run through Catalan art from the Romanesque to the early 20th century.
The Gothic and Renaissance rooms hold altarpieces, statuary, and ceramics from across Catalonia. The Modernista galleries upstairs include works by RusiƱol, Casas, and Ramon Pichot. Best of all is the long marble terrace at the back, with one of the finest sea views from any museum in Spain. Combined ticket with Cau Ferrat.
