Festa do Viño Albariño

August wine festival drawing 40,000 visitors to the Praza de Fefiñáns for tastings from across the Rías Baixas denomination

The Festa do Viño Albariño, held in the first week of August every year, is the biggest event in Cambados and one of the most enjoyable wine festivals in Spain. The Praza de Fefiñáns — already one of Galicia's most handsome squares — is transformed for the week into an open-air tasting hall, with producers from across the Rías Baixas denomination setting up stands under the arcades and in the square itself. Around 40,000 people attend across the week, a remarkable number for a town of Cambados' size.

The format is informal and genuinely participatory — this is not a trade fair but a public celebration, and locals outnumber tourists most evenings. Tickets for tastings are inexpensive and cover a reasonable number of samples. Live music runs most evenings, and the bars in the surrounding streets stay open correspondingly late. If you are in Galicia in late July or early August, adjusting your itinerary to include the festival is worth it. Book accommodation several weeks in advance — rooms within easy reach of Cambados fill up completely.
